Often times, people who experience traumatic events try to maintain a sense of normality until they no longer can and then therapy is required.
Nigerian media personality; Toke Makinwa has revealed that she had a tough time dealing with Post-traumatic stress disorder.
She said she had to go through therapy. Although it’s a very difficult journey, she hopes she can find the courage to share her journey.
“We are all broken differently. Therapy saved me, I’m not a hundred percent but I can say that going to therapy has really helped. One day I hope I am brave enough to share my journey of healing from PTSD through therapy, forgive someone today, I know it’s difficult but life is short. I pray you all get the courage to go to those dark places and come out in the light. Love you all.”
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
Most people who go through traumatic events may have temporary difficulty adjusting and coping, but with time and good self-care, they usually get better.
We are glad Toke got over it on time because getting effective treatment after PTSD symptoms develop can be critical to reduce symptoms and improve function.
