You know, a lot of people say that they’re working on themselves, they say they’re bettering themselves, most times over some things they’ve done in the past; it could be their actions, words or reactions, but are they, really?
According to the Vocabulary dictionary, self-improvement is the process of making yourself a better or more knowledgable person. Self-improvement means accepting who you are as a person, working towards growing and becoming a better version of yourself. Self-improvement is not just about changing one’s bad decisions or bad habits, its more about building a version of yourself that inspires and motivates other people. Oh! yes, everyone wants to inspire, everyone wants to be a role model but do you really have what it takes? are you ready to be a role model? do you even know what it entails?.
You see, to better one’s whole self takes a lot of time, and the time I’m talking about could be years. The reason is that bettering oneself is growth, and growth is a gradual process, change doesn’t just happen in a blink of an eye or at a click of the fingers. When growing, there is need for a lot of thought-gathering, you need to be able to determine what and what you need to focus and work on. It might not be easy but it’s all worth it. There are also habits you can take on during this process. They include; reading books, meditating, exercising, etc.
It is important to improve oneself because you’re able to adapt to change and work on the relationship with yourself and others. It also gives you the ability to know what you’re capable of doing and what you’re good at. Let’s not forget that it boosts your confidence as well. As humans passing through life, we should focus on bettering ourselves, not just for us but also for the people around us. We need to take our time to grow.
