Over the years, early marriage is practiced in different countries where children’s human rights are being violated. Despite being prohibited by international law, it continues to rob millions of girls under 18 around the world of their childhood.
Nigerian singer; Di’ja who hails from the northern part of the country has spoken against child marriage.
Di’ja also spoke on Obstetric Fistula; a medical issue that affects young girls. She condemned child marriage saying young girls should be allowed to get to a certain age to determine if they are ready for marriage and reproduction or not.
She wrote on Twitter:
“Our young girls need to be allowed to grow up before doing grown man and women things like marriage and anything to do with sexual reproduction. If you really mean well you will at least give her until 18 years old, while honestly guiding her spirit. Not everyone means well.
We at Angieisika’s blog also say No To Early- Child Marriage. This act denies girls their right to make vital decisions about their sexual health and well-being. It forces them out of education and into a life of poor prospects, with an increased risk of violence, abuse, ill health, or early death.
